McCain / Palin ruined the 'Maverick' brand

Maverick used to mean finding a novel way to solve a problem.  Now, it means ignoring the law, abandoning ethics and screwing everyone to get your way.

I have reached the point now, where if I ever hear someone use the word 'maverick' again, I may resort to uncontrolled sobbing or projectile vomiting.

( Cross-posted at The National Gadfly )

Maverick used to mean wearing white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day.

Now, it means standing in front of a green screen to make yourself look awful.

Maverick used to mean drinking Chardonnay with red meat.

Now, it means drinking Jagermeister mixed with snowmobile fuel.

Maverick used to mean breaking wild horses.

bucking bronco

Now, it means...sticking your head up an elephant's ass.

Maverick used to mean using your hybrid to ride-share.

Now, it means parking your egotistical gas guzzler in everybody's way, because it's convenient for you.

Maverick used to mean James Garner playing poker.

Now, it means a rusted beater, held together with Bond-O and a coat of primer.

Maverick used to mean innovative solutions in the face of overwhelming challenge.

Now, it means using the same failed strategy with bigger tools and more money - to the same disastrous end.

Footnote to History (2.00 / 1)

Just on the oxymoronic 'maverick brand:'

Maverick was considered independent minded by his fellow ranchers because he refused to brand his cattle.

Re: Footnote to History (none / 0)

refused to brand, eh?  I just get the sneaky feeling that ol' "rancher mccain" would love to brand us all...and I have a bad feeling about what that brand would be.

:-)

Re: Footnote to History (none / 0)

From what I've seen of McCain this election cycle he's a far scarier alternative to what we've just been through, a true horseman of the Apocalypse.

Re: Footnote to History (none / 0)

Precisely. A true maverick has no brand and certainly would never brand himself "maverick." McCain is actually the antithesis of maverick, being someone who wants to wear all brands when it is convenient to do so.

Re: McCain / Palin ruined the 'Maverick' brand (none / 0)

I used to watch James Garner play Maverick.  he was cool, made maverick seem just like James Garner. Well, John and Sarah aren't James Garner.

There was also Rawhide.

Round him up, move him out.

Rawhide (Clint Eastwood!) was good fun.  My favorite was Wild, Wild West.  It had gizmos, an evil midget out to rule the world and that awesome private rail car.

cheers,

I think I dated that chick on the toilet (none / 0)

But it wasn't a Jaeger/fuel shot that did her in, it was the dreaded "Lawnmower":  Vodka and wheatgrass juice.

Cute Uggs though.

I might be crazy... but are you seeing what I'm seeing?

I really like that picture.  I think it adds a nice Alaskan / gubernatorial touch to the diary, with the very uggs you pointed out.

thanks,
